Legislative Council Results

This is the current estimated make up of the Legislative Council or Upper House of the NSW Parliament. The LC operates like the Senate with half of its members up for election each time.

What is interesting is that the Greens have not picked up a single seat. This was the election that all the commentators said would be the making of the Greens and they have failed to make any impact at all. What adds to the size of their failure is that Labor voters preferred to go to the Liberal/National Parties rather than Greens. I hope the media commentators will now see the Greens for what they really are, just another left-wing fringe party.

Given the pleadings of Labor Party figures to not give the coalition a blank cheque, that's exactly what we have done. Overall, Labor lost 5, coalition picked up 4 and that extra seat looks like going to none other than Pauline Hanson.

Gordon Moyes (Family First) lost his seat to Paul Green of the CDP, probably due to the better organisation of the latter. Ironically the CDP branch structure was set up by Phil Lamb who is now State Director of Family First.

Sorry about the formatting of this.
